$SystemWordLength

gives the effective number of bits in raw machine words on the computer system where the Wolfram System is running.

Details

  • $SystemWordLength effectively gives the number of bits in memory addresses, or, more specifically, the length of a memory reference pointer.
  • On current computer systems, $SystemWordLength is 32 or 64.
